Top 10 Posts of 2013

As the year draws to a close, I thought this year I would do a review of the top 10 most viewed posts of 2013.  Also, I'm lazy.  If you're mad about it, sue me; I cranked out 50 completely new posts this year, so I get to be lazy for #52.  (And this one. Sorry.)  As a consolation prize for those of you looking for a brand new drawing this week, along with links to the posts are brief editorials on where they came from to (hopefully) add some interest.

Anyway, with all sincere love, affection, and appreciation for your support, I bring you the top 10 posts of this year!

#10. I Sincerely Hope Your Weekend Is...

Apparently you all love my cat as much as I do...or at least when she's being a dragon.  I know my cat-ladyness borders on the insane sometimes, but I can't help it. I love that pile of fluff.  This was a blog post that was inspired by a drawing rather than an actual idea.  My husband and I often joke (or rather, recognise) that our cat has delusions of grandeur and that idea somehow morphed into our cat thinking she's a dragon.  I started drawing and the rest is history.

#9. You're Smarter Than That

It's heartwarming to know that there are others out there who are sick of bad information getting spread around the Internet.  This one came about after seeing one too many conspiracy theory pages being spread around facebook.  The final straw for me was seeing someone with an advanced-level degree honestly believing there were human fetuses in her coffee...so this happened as a rebuttal.  It was fairly cathartic.  From an artistic angle, I enjoyed getting to use plain old-fashioned photoshop skills with this post since they're usually so dominated by drawing.

#8: Why I Will Never Really Be An Adult Reason #3,215:
Ice cream: a delightful universal.  This summer I spent an embarrassing amount of time eating frozen yogurt at a local gas station. (It was Race Trac. Georgians...you know the magic of which I speak.) Suffice to say, I keep it classy.  EXTRA CANDY EVERY TIME.

#7: The Difference Between Attending and University and Working at a University
This one goes out to all of my fellow educators.  I've been an ESL teacher for about 5 years now and worked at a university for almost 3 of those years. There's not a whole lot more I can add to what I said in the post; the end of the semester is rough for EVERYONE involved.  My liver may never forgive me.

#6: A Courtesy Message
...Apparently my irritation with bad information on the Internet was a bit of a theme for 2013...
Admittedly, this one came about after I was nearly duped myself into joining a blogger network that had less than honorable intentions...which happened to coincide with the absolute flood of fake Southwest adverts and poorly executed Bill Gates photoshop jobs.  The Southwest Airlines plane is probably one of my favorite individual drawings of this past year--I guess I just love anthropomorphizing things.

#5: Truce?
Oh SEC football...oh, the South...I'm an Upper-Midwesterner to the core, so the culture of college football as it stands in the South is a totally foreign concept to me.  True to my roots, I'm more of a baseball/hockey kind of gal. I do dig (to my doctor's horror) the way people enjoy food in the South, though.  I have never been exposed to more dips and fried things in my life.  One time two friends and I demolished a cake pan of jalapeno popper dip in one sitting.  I regret nothing.

I used to love the bold red posters and the message of duty and calm in the face of calamity.  I actually specialized a bit in World War II History in graduate school. Now I've seen so many "clever" spin offs the sight of the original even irritates me. That makes me a sad panda.

Honestly, I'm not sure why this one took off or why you all liked it so much...was it the scientific article or the creepy dolphin face?  Whatever works, I suppose...although I have to admit I'm not totally at ease with this one as I regret even partially making a joke about a serious issue.

...Probably my most potty-mouthed and certainly my most well-researched post.  This was one I did expect to stir up discussion, and based on page views, it certainly did.  Here's to fighting the good fight in the name of science.  Expect a book version of this coming in 2014!

The popularity of this post was a total surprise for me--this post started off like any other view-wise and then took off near the end of the year.  I used to take pictures with my dino friends all the time and really missed making ridiculous scenes with my buddies.  Also, I wanted an excuse to use the tiny SCRABBLE board I got from my older brother alongside my awesome bear skin rug coasters.

...and honestly?  I think we can all relate to a scrabble game gone bad...

...and there you have it. Whoever you are in internetland, a sincere thank you for your support.  Here's to an even better 2014!
